Myself, Warren and Scott would like to thank everyone for attending the latest couple of workshops. We had a great time and were thrilled by the level of originality and energy that people put into the two days!! When time permits we will be uploading some of the latest student work to the galleries and we hope to organise more workshops, including Drawing Fundamentals, Illustrative Digital Rendering and Advanced ZBrush, so please keep an eye on the site for updates.

Cheers

Paul

For those that were unable to attend, here are the last workshops we offered:

2D Concept DesignTutors: Paul Tobin, Warren Mahy

This workshop gives students a rare chance to immerse themselves in an intensive two day workshop with two senior concept designers from Weta Workshop. This course is similar in structure to last year’s workshop but with an all new brief.

During the two days, Paul and Warren will run a class-based brief that will introduce students to the fundamental conceptual and technical skills employed in 2D concept design. This year both tutors will be based in the same class, offering even more one-on-one tuition - which allows students to benefit from instruction tailored to their skill level.

At the conclusion of the workshop there will be the opportunity for students to have their portfolio reviewed along with any other personal work.

ZBrush Concept DesignTutor: Scott Spencer

Over the two day workshop we will look at fundamental methods of working with ZBrush as a concept design tool. Teaching will be a combination of demonstrations and one-on-one tuition.

Techniques of sketching forms in digital clay will be examined; looking at multiple approaches suited to different types of characters and working methods.

Digital sculpting techniques will be demonstrated as a character maquette is developed inside ZBrush. Methods of working primary and secondary forms as well as maintaining gesture and life in the sculpture will be of prime importance. The maquette will be finished by examining techniques and tools for adding fine details to the creature’s skin as well as posing the character sculpt.
